IN FINE, PARADISO 2019

As Eric Mangen first encountered the exhibition venue for his American paintings’ series at Paul Wurth Incube, his attention was drawn to an old photo wallpaper he found on a functional wall. Later, he was given the permission to take it down and cut it into smaller selected pieces. In Fine, Paradiso series marks a time in the artist’s evolution where he first consciously worked on a different painting support and with a much slower creation process than he was used to. The information that is already provided on the wallpaper gives him the possibility to bypass the process of painting from blank canvas, by including the information provided, modifying and building upon it. In this way, he allows the support to tell a part of the story. By ripping offparts of the photo, he includes the factor of accident within the creative process. He chooses the colors blue and red to contrast with the green tones of the images. A Part of the series was presented at Luxembourg Art Week in 2019.
